Status via ALEXA or IFTT

Hi all
Is there a way to make a shortcut that says something like
Alexa, Garage Status which would mean Alexa, Ask Smart Garage Status)
Just looking for a shortcut to do this without saying Ask Smart Garage using maybe IFTT

Can anyone help

Echo has very specific way for invoking custom skills. It has to be “Alexa tell …” or "Alexa ask ". There is a way to have a simpler invocation if the device is configured as home automation appliance, but for doors and locks Amazon do not allow opening/unlocking.
