Hey team. I’ve been a happy Garadget user for many years. I have a Garadget C4
(Hardware 2.8, Firmware 1.0.4). I’m in the process of migrating off of Control4 and onto Home Assistant. For that to happen, it looks like my Garadget needs to speak to the Garadget Cloud judging from these instructions
.
I’ve gone through the forums but it’s not clear to me that this is possible with my hardware. I’ve watched the video which explains how to register the device, but when I go through that process I don’t see the LEDs turn to blinking cyan. I also have different hardware and different firmware than what’s pictured in that video.
Can I update the firmware to the latest? I’m on 1.0.4 from 2022, but I see @garadget talking about the latest firmware being 1.1.3 in 2017 so I’m wondering if I’m on a totally different track here.
Before I move forward, can somebody please confirm that this Garadget C4 can actually work with Home Assistant? If it can, then I’ll happily go all the way down this rabbit hole but I’d love a little validation before I start.
Bharat,
The instructions you found are for discontinued consumer version of Garadget (pointy black unit) which was based on Particle cloud platform.
Garadget for Control4 (a round unit with the white top) is specific to Control4. It will not work with any other system.
Theoretically, the hardware is capable, but it would require a different firmware implementation and possibly the addition of the server infrastructure. At this time there are no plans for that.
Thanks, Denis. I was afraid of that. I like the Garadget and I want to stick with it, but I’ve got to get off of Control4.
The order page only shows the C4 Garadgets, so I’m wondering if you’ve narrowed your market to just C4? And if I were to use a second-hand unit, would I be reliant on your cloud infrastructure to do HA integration? Thanks for any clarity you can provide. In a perfect world, I would buy another unit, hook it up to HA, and stay in the ecosystem.
The consumer variant of Garadget can be configured as MQTT sensor without reliance on the cloud infrastructure. I might have some stock of consumer version of the controller. PM me if you want me to check the storage for those.
