New Garadget will not connect to wifi

The PHOTON-XXXX wifi hotspot shows up in the “Choose your Garadget”- list and the light on the device is slowly blinking blue, however, wifi scan shows nothing. Tried connecting with 3 phones and a laptop. From laptop was able to connect to 192.168.0.1, but then connection drops. Ping of 192.168.0.1 works for up to 300 seconds after restarting garadget, but then drops.

From web interface the wifi scan does not return any SSIDs even when garadget is right next to WAP.

I believe the device to be defective?
Help!?
